50 Years of RIMYI & Book Launch Party

19th January 2025 was the 50th Anniversary of the inaguration of RIMYI - the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, which is the homeland of Iyengar Yoga. Built by BKS Iyengar and named in memory of his late wife who sadly did not see its fruition, it has been a place of pilgrimage for Iyengar Yoga students for half a decade. I had the great honour of visiting Pune in 2020 for a month of study at the Institute, an experience that will stay with me forever. While celebrations were in full swing in India, we held our own gathering here in Somerset to mark this auspicious occasion. It was also the perfect time to celebrate student Mark Probert’s new book: “Journey Through Southern India”, not least because as part of his travels he visited RIMYI and had the privilege of interviewing Prashant Iyengar, Guruji’s son. You can read that interview in my earlier blog post here:

Mark gave a wonderful talk about his trip and showed us some pictures and videos he captured. Everyone went home with a signed copy of the book and a few inspired to start planning a trip to India!

Mark generously donated all proceeds from the evening to the Iyengar Yoga Development Trust and the Bellur Trust.
